Sick Baby

Yep, Levi definitely got the sickness, too.  The poor baby!  He had a very rough day yesterday.  Today he seemed to be doing some better, so I'm hoping and praying that tomorrow he'll be even more improved.  We did call the doctor yesterday, but since Levi has an appointment on Friday (2 month wellness visit) the doctor didn't want to have Levi come unless he was running a fever. I'm dreading the wellness visit, because it will be his first big round of vaccines.  All the vaccines kids have to get in today's world really scares me.  I've done some research to see what of the recommended vaccines I can decline - and there aren't many.  There are two different requirements in the state of SC for kids' required immunizations - one for kids in daycare and one for kids going to school.  The daycare requirements are much more stringent.  So, here are the ones Levi is supposed to receive on Friday and in parentheses is what requires it: Polio (d & s); pneumococcal conjugate (d); diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis (d & s); rotavirus (neither); hepatitis B (d & s); haemopilus influenzae type b (d).  A big part of me want to decline those that are required by daycare only, since Levi is not currently in daycare.  Then, if he does have to go we could put him on the catch-up schedule for those.  He definitely will not be receiving the rotavirus vaccine since it is not required by either daycare or school.  Please leave me a comment or send me an email with your thoughts on these particular vaccines or vaccines in general!!

What religion is it that is exempt from vaccinations?

I'm not sure, and I tried to look it up but was unsuccessful. Here's something I did find on Yahoo answers: "You need to write a letter, (with the help of the school attorney) stating that you have strong moral/ethical reasons why you do not want your child immunized and there's not a thing they can do about it. They did the same thing to me when I moved to NC.
I wrote a letter (I'm just plain old Christian) and told them the blood of Jesus was all the immunization my kids need. Over kill, I know, but it worked."

Hmmm...interesting. I wouldn't do it unless you had to. What are the odds of him getting any of that anyway? How's he feeling today? I LOVE you and miss you!

I know I'm late to join in the conversation, and shots have been administered, but with mine, I just prayed about it because of the autism issue. My ped does not give more than 4 shots at once, and the only thing you have to worry about is how much mercury is accumulated into their system (supposedly) over time. I have a friend who has an autistic child, and I've asked her about it. She's since had another child, and she spaces some of the vaccines out, but gets all of them, but she also highly believes that her family has a genetic predisposition. I believe that you should get all of them. You can endanger other children by not doing it. If you place your faith in God, and follow His guidance, you cannot go wrong. He is in control. In my case, I felt like God okayed them with A&E.

Lindy,
There are several ways to decline vaccinations. Make sure you "chart or record" any and all reactions Levi has to anything they do to him at the doctor. His history of reactions can help you.
My son, Graham (5 mo), has not even seen a Pediatrician yet. He is exclusively breastfed and is experiencing his very first cold at 5 months. I'm planning on taking him for a routine "check up" at 6 mo just to look him over. He's weighed at the hospital every week with my breastfeeding support group.
Back to Levi, I reccommend the religious exemption if you're asking my opinon. My husband and I have decided to do no vaccines for Graham. My niece is exempt for 10 years due to a brain abnormality. Her pediatrician is TERRIFIC in Apex, NC. She is very open minded, allows vaccination exemptions and will write a note to the school to exempt children from ever getting vaccinated.
You can decline anything you don't want to happen to Levi. You can also request all shots be given one at a time and have no preservatives in them. Thymerasol (mercury) is the main preservative used in vaccines today. The AMA "says" they're not using it anymore, but you can request to see the shot's insert and read the ingredients before Levi ever gets it.
If you must vaccinate, I reccommend a terrific book by a terrific physician, Dr. Sherri Tenpenny (Dr.TenPenny.com) called "Saying No to Vaccines". It is a guide to help you decide your child's vaccination schedule. You can actually purchase vaccines one at a time from a holistic company who guarantees no preservatives are an ingredient, give them to your pediatriciana and they will give that "somewhat healthy" shot.
Please be sure to ask that Levi's temperature is taken before getting a shot. He shouldn't have any shots if he has even a slight fever. AND only one shot per visit. NO BOOSTERS! Boosters are 3 shots in one needle. Ask the nurse, she'll tell you.
I hope I didn't scare you or bore you with all this. I'm very interested in the topic and I've read and researched a ton on this.
Love, Tricia Wentz Andress
